Celebrating sauerkraut

Yes, it’s true. On Saturday, September 19, 2009, a Sauerkraut Festival is taking place in Scappoose, Ore. It’s at Heritage Park from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. I tried to access the festival’s official web site at  http://www.scappoosecommunity.org/ but the server was down because of all the traffic. I have no idea if this is a new event or a repeat occurrence, but this is the first time I’ve ever heard of it. And if the unavailable web site is any indication, a lot of other people have some interest, too. I wonder if Germany has such a thing? Maybe I need to take a trip to Germany to research the issue. Now there’s a thought. I guess it helps that I like sauerkraut. It must be my German heritage. Oh, that just gave me another thought: I could research sauerkraut festivals in Germany and also delve into my German family history. That could work.
