The more firarms there are in general circulation, the more illicit use of firearms there would be. Handing out guns like confetti has no implicit garantee that they would only be used in self-defence situations. I’m glad you manage to deal with crackhead without a firearm, but do you really think you would be better off had you shot and killed him? Besides which, most of the world (as far as I know), do not live in neighbourhoods where crackheads braking into their homes is a likely occurance.
